Vision Statement and Aim

Vision Statement:
People Matter to God!

Aim:
To Live out the Love of Christ through a Caring Church within our Communities.

As outlined in our Strategic Plan our objectives are as follows:

Strategic Objective 1
“The Board shall deliver an effective service to The Presbyterian Church in Ireland and the wider community.”

Key Tasks:

  • 1.1 To develop social concern throughout the Church.
  • 1.2 To promote the importance of social witness at all levels of the Church.
  • 1.3 To respond to demands within congregations and the wider community.
  • 1.4 To offer advice and information about available resources.
  • 1.5 To offer informed comment on complex social and ethical issues.
  • 1.6 To provide support and rehabilitation for vulnerable people.
  • 1.7 To manage and monitor all the Board’s activities and facilities.
  • 1.8 To develop close working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • 1.9 To respond to, campaign and lobby Government on current social issues.
  • 1.10 To promote and further establish the Board’s Volunteer Programme.
  • 1.11 To produce a comprehensive Training Programme for all Board activities.
  • 1.12 To support community and urban ministry.


Strategic Objective 2
“Specialist Ministries shall promote and support the work of Chaplains and the Church’s ministry to the Deaf Community.”

Key Tasks:

  • 2.1 To support the work of University Chaplains on an all-Ireland basis.
  • 2.2 To establish local committee support for all serving University Chaplains.
  • 2.3 To support the work of all Hospital and Health Care Chaplains.
  • 2.4 To support the work of all Prison and other Criminal Justice Chaplains.
  • 2.5 To support the Forces Chaplains, both at home and on active service.
  • 2.6 To provide training for all those in chaplaincy roles.
  • 2.7 To develop the work of the Kinghan Church and the Deaf Community.


Strategic Objective 3
“Older People Services will deliver a high standard of social and nursing care to all our residents and campaign on behalf of older people.”

Key Tasks:

  • 3.1 To manage and monitor the work at our nine units.
  • 3.2 To support the work of the Local Support Committees and “Friends of” Groups.
  • 3.3 To promote and deliver regular training to all staff.
  • 3.4 To sustain a high level of occupancy in all units.
  • 3.5 To examine the feasibility of developing Day-Care and Respite Services.
  • 3.6 To discuss the refurbishment or relocation of a number of units.
  • 3.7 To develop new work in response to local requests.
  • 3.8 To develop community safety initiatives.


Strategic Objective 4
“Family Services will promote family life and the general well-being of our members, continue to develop services for the disabled within the Church, support the work of the Taking Care Office, PCI Counselling, PCI Family Holiday and South Belfast Friendship House.”

Key Tasks:

  • 4.1 To promote Family Life through training events and conferences.
  • 4.2 To develop the appropriate structure to deal with the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well-being of our members.
  • 4.3 To support and represent all those with a disability or special need within our Church.
  • 4.4 To promote the Taking Care Programme and checking for all leaders and workers.
  • 4.5 To manage and monitor the PCI Counselling Service.
  • 4.6 To develop the role of Friendship House in partnership with PWA.
  • 4.7 To promote PCI Family Holiday.


Strategic Objective 5
“Adult Services shall manage the work of Thompson House, Carlisle House and Gray’s Court and promote an addiction-free society through our Addiction Services Committee.”

Key Tasks:

  • 5.1 To manage and monitor the work of Thompson House.
  • 5.2 To agree a strategy for the refurbishment or replacement of Thompson House.
  • 5.3 To manage and monitor the work of Carlisle House and Gray’s Court.
  • 5.4 To develop a range of uses for the Hopelink Centre.
  • 5.5 To keep the issue of alcohol and drug abuse on the Church’s agenda.
  • 5.6 To deliver training in the area of addictions.
  • 5.7 To support the work of ICAP (Inter-Church Addictions Project).
