Training for Ministers

Child Protection Training for all Ministers was agreed by the General Assembly of 2007. Twelve events took place across all Presbyteries including catch-up sessions in Church House from January 2009 to February 2010. These events were facilitated by both Lindsay Conway and Deborah Webster. The training included a power point presentation, the use of multimedia, a question time and small group discussion. Topics include the new Vetting and Barring Scheme, the use of the internet to groom children and sex offenders attending congregations.

The training seminars have been well received with the vast majority of the five hundred or so Ministers attending and the response has been extremely positive. Here are some comments taken from the Evaluation forms: ‘First Class’; ‘Very helpful and necessary’; ‘Excellent!’; ‘Worthwhile and informative’; ‘Invaluable’ ‘Practical’ ‘Very relevant and user friendly’ ‘Great!’.

As it was agreed at the Assembly that training would take place on a ‘regular’ basis due to the changes in legislation, policy and practice, and so child protection training for Ministers will be organised again within the next few years.
